Summers are incomplete without buttermilk! With a few additional steps added to the coconut milk curd recipe, you do not have to go without! This recipe barely takes 5 minutes to make and serves 3. Trust me, the taste is better than dairy-based buttermilk. Please keep reading for the recipe.

Ingredients

1/2 cup coconut milk curd

1/3 cup water

1/4 tsp salt

1/3 tsp buttermilk masala

1/3 tsp powdered mint

Instructions for Method 1

Add water to the curd and churn using a churner.

Once churned, add salt, buttermilk masala, powdered mint, and mix well.

Serve cold and enjoy!

Instructions for Method 2

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend. Easy peasy!

Note: You can buy the masala from a local store or make it at home. Read the label to ensure it’s vegan before you buy it. There plenty of recipes online to make the masala at home if you do not want the store-bought variations.

I highly recommend continue using the same curd culture so that you can make buttermilk, raita, lassi, and other curd-based drinks/dishes whenever you want to. Being a vegan in India isn’t difficult when you find the right options!

This recipe was contributed by Vaibhavi lonkar, one of our long-term volunteers. You can check more of her work here: Guide to everything vegan
