How Does Food Planet Health Help Students?

The Food Planet Health Awareness Program helps students learn about the impact of their food choices on the environment, animals, and their health. It gives students more agency for choosing a compassionate, sustainable, healthy diet.

Impact on Environment

Meat and dairy production produces 60% of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions while providing just 18% of calories and 37% of protein. The program helps students to consume environmentally sustainable food by going plant-based.

Impact on Animals

Worldwide, more than 70 billion land animals are killed for food every year. Animals are bred, impregnated, tortured, and transported to slaughterhouses to meet gruesome ends. The Food Planet Health Awareness Sessions help students learn about speciesism and the brutal atrocities that animals suffer on farms.

Impact on Health

Eating plant-based food is good not only for plants and animals but also for our health. People who eat plant-based diets have:

  • 3/4–1/2 lower rates of high blood pressure.
  • 2/3 lower risk of type-2 diabetes.
  • 15–20% lower risk of cancer.
  • Significantly lower cholesterol levels.

Impact on Land and Water

Meat and Dairy production uses 83% of farmland and 33% of total drinkable water. Do you know it requires 660 liters of water to produce 1kg of chicken? The Food Planet Health program helps students choose environmentally sustainable food with a low carbon footprint and food that can save water.

Increase in Animal-Derived Consumption from a Growing Population is Leading to More Stress on the Planet.

We need to make sustainable and compassionate food choices!
